MR. FRIGHTS

Mr. Frights, as you know from our front page, is all about promoting and producing entertaining horror content focusing on the fun roots of the genre. But what does that mean?

It means that this site, Mr. Frights, and anything we do is not about "sleazy" horror. We also don't deal with extreme exploitation of violence or sex in horror.  We feel there are already many websites out there who indulge those things.

To clarify, we are totally cool with movies like the original SAW. Friday the 13th films, Nightmare on Elm Street movies, Halloween movies, independent films that follow the like, etc. -- are all fun and we love them. But we won't be pushing things like the SAW sequels and Hostel which get progressively more exploitive.

While we respect the films themselves and the filmmakers' visions in what they were trying to get across to the audience, and while we may be fans of some of those flicks, Mr. Frights isn't about the torture-centric, exploitative side of horror.

No, we're not all PG13, but we are definitely not NC17.

We DON'T do horror news. We're not trying to be journalists in that right; there are tons of other better sites for you to get your horror news. We DON'T do horror movie reviews. Again, lots of sites out there for just that thing both professional and independent.

We DO offer fun tips for enjoying Halloween throughout the year. We DO recommendations of things we think fans would like in the way of books, movies, TV, music, and so on. We DO try to interview some of the most interesting people in horror, past, present, and future. We DO make cheesy & scary horror videos, cartoons, and shorts. We DO host contests in which we hope to offer some cool little prizes for our fans/followers as we try to get people in on the fun with us.

Mr. Frights is meant to be fun and funny and meant to bring out that joy we all have in hiding our eyes when something awesome is about to happen to a victim on screen. Quite simply... We're a celebration of horror!

BEHIND MR. FRIGHTS

Mr. Frights is the culmination of a lifetime of fanship of horror. Creator Justin Lewis (a.k.a. J. Michael Lewis or just 'J' if you're saucy) saw his first major horror flick over 22 years ago when Halloween 4 came out. From that point on he was hooked on the genre and ate up everything he could about it.

From even earlier on Justin was a fan of Halloween. It seems it was always his favorite holiday as he was so interested in building costumes and going all out for decorations during the holiday and eventually throwing the sickest Halloween parties with a haunted house filled with his high school friends.

Flash forward a lot of years and you'd find www.temperedzealot.com which is a website dedicated to the movie work of Jerod Brennen & Justin Lewis. The two started out in 2004 writing screenplays and making their first short, a video where darkness inevitability catches up to the on screen main character.

Flash forward again about five years and here we are. After almost a year of down time and a load of serious thought on the original goals Justin had when he set out to become a filmmaker, Mr. Frights was born. It wasn't over night mind you as the idea had been forming for a couple years before that break from filmmaking.

Now, Justin IS Mr. Frights, a character that is being developed with the intentions to be a next generation horror icon. While we'd love to give you more detail on that, we feel it's best to keep those plans to ourselves.

The majority of how these plans go depends on Justin alone, but he can't do it all by himself. Mr. Frights is joined by a crack team of people to help out with the processes behind the things we do.

in no particular order:

J.D. Larabee is our cartoonist/animator and helps with development of content.

Jerod Brennen helps out with concept & process development and other important things.

Aaron "Doc" Hay is the one who came up with the original make-up for the live version of Mr. Frights and who has agreed to continue to help us out when his schedule allows it.

We also work with Craig McGee who is a long time respected horror movie reviewer, writer, and filmmaker. Craig's input and connections have and continue to help shape Mr. Frights' image.

And of course Dave "Smooze" Szymusiak who has helped support this venture from the beginning in many various ways including helping us to land some of the interviewees we've had on Five With Frights and providing us with some of our terror-ific give-aways.

Together they make up what we call Team Frights. The team is always growing as we develop and find that there are new things that need taken care of. If you're interested in working with Team Frights please feel free to contact Mr. Frights to discuss it.
